Turning Down The Volume: Open_Notes 2

the intelligent organization is an organization that is skilled at marshaling its information resources and capabilities, transforming information into knowledge, and using this knowledge to sustain and enhance its performance in a restless environment - managing information processes more effectively to achieve these goals.

journalism, education, needs to move away with our obsession of pouring information into ourselves without any meaning - ie. TV news, a world of "and's" not of "because" - no opinions - the world presented as a series of incoherent events - people require a "because" to grasp - media - books, newspapers, magazines - abundance of material to piece together the picture - at the moment we rely on our education to decide what is relevant - yet education today is in the "information business" and the skills to decide are not there, not being taught - "the end of education" - not teaching kids how to think - the need for schools to have some sort of narrative, a story to tell, without which education is meaningless - vitality, meaning needed, a frame, a sense of who we are, culture coherence, a binding narrative.
